Today at 9:00-10:10 we went and watched the kahurangi dance company I really liked how they threw the titi rakau to each other without dropping them. And I liked how Jane and Michelle did the poi and explained it really well about the long and shot poi. So I rated them four stars ****.            By Ashton

Kahurangi dance

This morning at the Allenton School Hall, five people from the Kahurangi Dance Company came in to show us a really good presentation. They sang songs, danced, talked and used titi rakau and poi. Their group has been together for one week two days. In the group there are three boys, two girls and their names are - Lucky, Michelle, Jordan, Aroha and Laona. In one of their waiata/songs, they were throwing Titi Rakau to each other while singing at the same time! I really enjoyed one of the parts when three of them chose one boy each to come up to the front with them and copy some actions. One of the three that were at the front was Mr. Hannagan! He made lots of funny sounds and did the actions almost correct. It was really funny watching it all happen! One of the few parts that I didn't like was all of the noise and yelling. My ears were aching when we came out, but I still really enjoyed it! I think that they are really talented and I really want to see them perform again!!!🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Kahurangi dance.
I rate it 4/5 stars. Today this morning at 9:00 we had the group of Kahurangi dancers. My favourite was when MR Hannigan copied the guy in front of him and copied the taiaha noises. I think the is taiaha nearly the best I heard lately because the Ashburton music festival was five stars

Kahurangi dance company

We watched today a Maori dance. It was at 9:10-10:15. It was in the Allenton School hall. There were 3 men and 2 ladies. They sang a variety of waiata. In every waiata they did some dancing. Through different parts of the performance they talked about their ancestors .At one part they asked some people what their favourite taonga was. Some people said it was chocolate or gold. A taonga is a treasure and could be your family.    I gave it a ****.

Kahurangi dance company

On Monday 3rd of August at 9.00am at Allenton school. The kahurangi dance company came and did a concert for the whole school and did some dancing and waiata. When they got into it they asked people to come up and played a little game like Simon says and Mr H, Conner and Brooklyn came up and Mr H was so funny. The songs they preformed were so good. I would give them 4 and a half out of 5. Their names were Michelle, Jane, Jordan, Lucky and Aroha I think. I loved the Kahurangi group because they were so good and I wish they can perform again at Allenton school again.

Kahurangi dance company

On Monday 3rd of August, 9:00, all the students of Allenton school were hustled into the hall for a special Maori dance. The Kahurangi dance company had arrived to share their performance with us! The group did waiata, dancing and taught us all about taonga, treasures, ancestors, poi, taiaha, rakau, titi rakau and all about the Maori culture. The company has been together for 32 years but the group that performed to us had only been together since the start of the term! It was amazing how they cooperated so well if they hadn't known each other for long. They were really loud too, and it was a great performance. My two favourite parts was the part where part where people had to try out some moves, and the rakau. The people who tried out moves was Brooklyn, Connor and Mr H. It was funny because one performer made lots of disgusting, horrifying sounds and Mr H seemed to be able to copy them and sound exactly like the performer! It was really funny and everyone cracked up laughing. My other favourite part, the rakau, I liked because it was so clever. Usually we would bang sticks and pass the rakau sticks to each other on the mat when we do rakau. But the performers threw them high up in the air to each other really fast. They also passed them to each other up above them even! My favourite bit was when they threw one and caught one at the same time! It was so cool!

It was a great performance.

I give them a 5/5 for star rating!

Monday 3rd August

Kahurangi dance company

Today in the morning at 9:00 Allenton School were entertained by the amazing Kahurangi Dance group. they performed in the hall and we could hear their feet move as they stepped on the wooden floor .They sang a variety of of songs and their dancing skills were amazing. They told us what toanga meant and I already knew what it meant because my brother's name is Taonga and in our language it means thank you. Anyway the women did the poi; the long poi means the birds flying and the short poi means the heart beat. The men did the ti ti rakau. In conclusion I give them five stars.

We saw the Kahurangi dance company.  It was at the school hall on Monday 3 August at 9 am. I was scared stiff in place behind my own legs. It was scary because it was loud and they had spears. I was not happy after. Harry Johnston

Kahurangi Dance

This morning the whole of Allenton school met up at the Allenton school hall to watch the kahurangi dance company perform for us.

My favourite performance was when they performed with the titi rakau, it was amazing.

The group had only been together for one week and two days which is pretty amazing since they were amazing!

The girls performed with long and short pois, long meaning birds as if to look pretty, and short meaning heart beat of papatuanuku.

The performers were communicating with the audience for an example bringing people/ volunteers up to the front and teaching them a dance.

I think that the performance was perfect and deserves an easy 4•5/5

Room 2 went tot he Allenton School hall.  There we met that Kahurangi Dance Company.  They danced, they sung, the showed us new things.  It was 9:00am when the dancing and singing started and it finished at 10:10am.  Nuss Lester (our teacher) said that we all behaved very well.  There were two ladies and three men.  Brooklyn, Conner and Mr H went in the front and one of the three men told them to copy the other man's actions with the sound.  They did it and it was so funny!.  The group had been together for one week and two days.  I give them 4 1/2 stars because I know they can do better.  They were really cool!   I like the Maori tradition, they mean a lot of things for me and for them!
